Ingenuity Pays Off When Recruiting Millennials

Thanks to Steven Rothberg at CollegeRecruiter.com for sharing news of the innovative, first-ever Deloitte & Touche Film Festival.

The festival invited employees in the accounting and consulting firm’s US operations to make short videos that answered the question "What's your Deloitte?". Teams comprised of one to seven people submitted films about their lives and experiences at the organization. Nearly 400 submissions were received and more than 2000 participated in the filmmaking process.

The videos, which offered candid and unfiltered view of Deloitte's culture of inclusion, leading edge talent and innovative workplace were posted on an internal "You-Tube" like site and then rated by the filmmakers' peers and colleagues. From there, a diverse panel of judges chose the finalists and Deloitte's employees picked the winners. The top videos will be integrated into the organizations recruiting efforts.  Deloitte absorbed many of the costs associated with the initiative by buying production equipment for 350 teams. The equipment will be donated to non-profit organizations, including FilmAid International.

This project is a wonderful example of how firms seeking to attract large numbers of Gen Y recruits are finally thinking out of the box.  And they’re doing it in a way that’s meant to be transparent, authentic, and personally meaningful - which is exactly how Millennials do things.  Good for you, Deloitte.
