Waddle & Reed Financial, Inc. conducts business through its subsidiaries, and primarily provides investment advisory, distribution and administrative services to mutual funds and institutional and separately managed accounts. In the Advisors channel, its sales force (the Advisors) consists of 2,409 financial advisors, who focus their efforts primarily on the sale of investment products advised by the Company. The Advisors channel's primary market is middle income and mass affluent individuals, families and businesses across the country. For the six months ended 30 June 2006, Waddell & Reed Financial, Inc.'s revenues increased 18% to $354.4M. Net loss before accounting change totaled $8.8M, vs. an income of $15.7M. Revenues reflect increased Investment management fees,higher Underwriting & Distribution fees and increased Shareholder service income. Net loss reflects an increase in underwriting & distribution fees and higher compensation & related costs.
