Valassis Communications, Inc. provides a range of marketing products and services to a variety of manufacturers, direct marketers, retailers, franchisees and other advertisers. The Company's offerings are categorized into four groups: Market Delivered Products, Neighborhood Targeted Products, Household Targeted Products, and International and Services. Market Delivered Products consist of cooperative free-standing inserts (FSI) and run of press (ROP). Neighborhood Targeted Products include preprinted inserts, newspaper-delivered product samples, newspaper polybag advertising and door hangers. Household Targeted Products include direct mail advertising/sampling, software and analytics, and Internet-delivered promotions. The International and Services product group includes coupon clearing, promotion information management products and marketing services with operations in the United States, Canada, Mexico and Europe, and promotion security and consulting services. For the three months ended 31 March 2006, Valassis Communications, Inc.'s revenues fell 11% to $247.6M. Net income fell 36% to $18.1M. Revenues reflect lower FSI revenues due to average decline in average FSI pricing, reduced ROP revenues due to movement of pre-Easter holiday advertising and a decrease in neighborhood targeted product sales. Net income also reflects lower operating margins and an increase in interest expense.
