M.D.C. Holdings, Inc. (MDC) operates in two segments: homebuilding and financial services. The homebuilding segment builds and sells primarily single-family detached homes. The financial services segment consists of the operations of HomeAmerican Mortgage Corporation (HomeAmerican), a full service mortgage lender originating or brokering mortgage loans for approximately 70% of its homebuyers, and American Home Insurance Agency, Inc. (American Home Insurance), which offers third-party insurance products to its homebuyers. For the six months ended 30 June 2006, M.D.C. Holdings, Inc.'s revenues increased 20% to $2.38B. Net income decreased 8% to $171.9M. Revenues reflect an increase in homebuilding sales due to increased average selling prices of homes and higher revenue from the financial services segment. Net income was offset by increased homebuilding expenses, an increase in financial services expenses and higher related party expenses.
