Level 3 Communications, Inc. (Level 3) through its operating subsidiaries, is engaged primarily in the communications and information services businesses. The Company is a facilities-based provider of a range of integrated communications services. During the year ended December 31, 2005, the Company's network encompassed an intercity network covering approximately 48,000 miles in North America; leased or owned local networks in approximately 110 North American markets; an intercity network covering approximately 3,600 miles across Europe; leased or owned local networks in approximately 20 European markets; approximately 6.7 million square feet of Gateway and transmission facilities in North America and Europe, and a 1.28 terabyte per second (Tbps) transatlantic cable system. On December 23, 2005, Level 3 completed the acquisition of WilTel Communications Group, LLC (WilTel). For the twenty six weeks ended 30 June 2006, Level 3 Communications, Inc.'s revenues increased 48% to $2.80B. Net loss increased 39% to $265M. Revenues reflect higher sales from communications segment & information services segment. Higher loss reflects an increase in cost of revenues, higher selling, general & administrative expense, increased depreciation & amortization charge, higher interest expense and presence of other non-operating expenses.
