Synovus Financial Corp. is a diverse financial services company. It is a bank holding company and provides integrated financial services, including banking, financial management, insurance, mortgage and leasing services through bank subsidiaries and its other offices in Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, Florida and Tennessee, and electronic payment processing and related services through the Company's 81% owned subsidiary, Total System Services, Inc. The business segments include Financial Services (which primarily involve commercial banking activities, as well as retail banking, financial management, mortgage, leasing and insurance services), and Transaction Processing Services (which consist primarily of electronic payment processing services, including consumer, commercial, retail, government services, debit and stored value card processing and related services.) For the six months ended 31 June 2006, Synovus Financial Corp.'s total interest income rose 36% to $937.2M. Net interest income after LLP rose 21% to $511.6M. Net income rose 17% to $287.3M. Net interest income reflects higher income from loans, partially offset by increased interest expenses. Net income was partially offset by an increase in personnel expenses and higher occupancy & equipment expenses.
