Napster, Inc. (Napster) is a provider of online music for the consumer market. The Company's digital music distribution services enable users to sample, listen to and purchase from a collection of online music catalogues utilizing a legal platform. Napster's online music services are offered directly to end users through its Website, affiliate network and universities that have procured site licenses. The Company also sells prepaid cards through its retail partners and bundles its services with original equipment manufacturer (OEM) partners, such as iRiver, Dell, Creative Labs and Samsung. Napster relies on third-party content providers, including music publishers and music labels, to offer online music content that can be delivered to users of its digital music distribution services. On May 1, 2006, the Company launched the Napster.com, a legal, advertising-supported service that offers free, on-demand listening without monthly restrictions. For the fiscal year ended 31 March 2006, Napster, Inc.'s revenues totaled $94.7M, up from $46.7M. Net loss from continuing operations increased 12% to $57.9M. Revenues reflect increased content revenues due to higher subscriber growth, increased downloads, international expansion and an increase in revenue from hardware & license. Higher loss reflects an increase in sales & marketing expenses and higher research & development expenses.
