House Counsel I · Yonkers, NY
POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides legal representation to Progressive's insureds and Progressive in lower exposure and/or lower complexity cases. This is an entry level position.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
% of Time
100% Responsible for handling lower exposure and/or lower complexity cases with close supervision of the managing attorney and/or other senior level trial attorney.
Develops litigation skills, including the ability to try a basic or uncomplicated case.
Directs support staff in the completion of tasks.
Counsels and advises clients
Makes routine court appearances
Conducts basic discovery and investigation
Prepares and tries basic cases
Expected to develop strong customer and client relationships.
Works towards gaining an understanding of the insurance business, and particularly the Progressive business model.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- Juris Doctorate required
- Member of the Bar in jurisdiction(s) served by specific House Counsel office(s)
- 0 + years of legal experience/training
- Excellent client/customer skills
- Basic computer proficiency
- Strong analytical skills
- Good negotiation skills
