POSITION SUMMARY:
Supervises attorneys and/or staff in the House Counsel business group. This position includes handling an inventory of cases consistent with the level of management responsibilities. This management level is only available based on business need.
SCOPE:
Supervises House Counsel attorneys and/or support staff including employment decisions, performance management, compensation and reward planning, employee development and monitoring of department budget.
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
% of Time
50-70% Handles an inventory of cases consistent with the level of management responsibilities
Handles all aspects of the assigned cases, which includes analysis of medical records and other documents, motion practice, pleadings, depositions, including expert depositions, etc.
Counsels and advises clients
Makes court appearances
Conducts discovery and investigation
Prepares and tries cases with moderate to severe exposure and complexity
Develops business partnership with claims customers
Works towards gaining an understanding of the insurance business, and particularly the Progressive business model.
